Another year of not being able to attend the Ottawa Linux Symposium. Too much work to do, though I live in Michigan, so I could actually drive. I _so_ want to visit the Glenn Gould exhibit at the National Library of Canada...
We are under a big crunch at work. Lots of things to do, fix, and get into production. :-)
OK. We got the new contract/tasking-order. I've been working since August 19th. I'm assigned to 8 projects in various overlapping capacities.
I was unemployed for 14 months. Don't let it happen to you. But I wish I was doing exciting work in Haskell or something.
[Damn, I should keep my mouth shut.]
We're waiting to see if we get to keep our contract. Oh, the joy of recompete. 5 year contracts that have to reviewed and renewed annually, and then opened for competition again after 5 years.
I guess there's always something that keeps me complaining or worrying.
OK, so I start my new job on August 19th.
Nevermind. I was going to start my new job August 5th, but now I have to wait and see if they get the new contract. They won't know until mid-August, so I probably can't start until August 26th or September 2nd. If they win the contract. In the meantime, I may have to sell my car. Fifteen months of unemployment.
OK. I'll stop complaining... I got a job. I'm leaving Colorado and moving back to Michigan to work at my old job.
The job market seems to continue getting worse as more accounting "scandals" come to light. The analysts that predicted that employment, particularly in high tech, wouldn't resurge in the USA until the summer of 2003 may actually have been _optimists_.
I didn't get the job in Michigan, but there's another opening coming up at the same place, and I might be in the running for that job.

I've been re-reading Haruki Murakami novels, thinking I'll go live in the Rocky Mountains, a cross between the hermit Ryokan and the SheepMan.
I'm going to read Plato's Symposium and then I'll make believe that I'm having a conference of stuffed toys in my cramped little bedroom.
12.5 months unemployed.

New HTML Parser: The long-awaited libxml2 based HTML parser code is live. It needs further work but already handles most markup better than the original parser.
