right. so as usual, i got a cold when i got to vienna. that fucking sucked. not the cold itself that was so bad, but the inability to go out and enjoy myself in the city, rather than being in the middle of maja's family preparing for a two month trip to croatia.

point being, i'm ready to go to croatia, be healthy and tan, and chill my booty out. we leave in two days.

ooh, maja is here. maybe she'll kiss me. woohoo! she did.

she says i'm a dork. diaries are the perfect waste of time.

i just arrived in vienna this morning. the conference went fine, my presentation and everything. i think it was better received than it was presented, but whatever. i skipped the last two days of the conference to see paris and not wear a suit. i'm chilling now.

croatia soon.

i'm preparing my presentation for xml europe 2000... i think i'm finding out that i hate preparing presentations. one would think that it would be a good exercise in distilling one's research, lending a higher-level perspective to the entrenched soul, but it's more like a pain in the ass.

also, i found out that the conference people mangled my paper. they uglified it, and i'm assuming that's how they'll publish it. i worked too long on that paper for it to be made ugly. that was knuth's problem, so he created tex. i don't think i can live up to quite that level of intensity.

wow, diaries are a wonderful waste of time. i've avoided returning to my presentation for a good five minutes now.

hrm...

i graduated! it's done! now i can get on with things.

right. so i'm dan. i'm graduating from brown in a week, with honors and some other stuff in computer science. i've taken a job at netscape, to bless mozilla with even more xml lovin' than hyatt has already done, and to represent netscape on emerging standards to the W3C.

before that, though, i'm taking a six week vacation in europe with my fiancée, maja. we're going to paris, where i'm presenting my thesis work at xml europe 2000; then to vienna, where she lives; and then to her summer home in supetar, a small town on an island an hour off the coast of croatia.

basically, life is pretty good.

is it strange that one can certify themselves? whatever.
