Older blog entries for dneighbors (starting at number 10)

Today spoke with Kenny some from Gnome Documentation Project. Looked at their template stuff. After discussion with Andru from Treshna I will be starting the templates this week. Shouldnt be too much too it. : ) or so I am telling myself.

Appears there is good tool http://www.conglomerate.org for doing docbook stuff. : ) This will be a big plus. Several have asked. I am considering taking the GDP handbook and reworking it fit GNUe as it is under the FDL and makes for a nice start to such a thing.

Anyhow, its time to code. Saw The Whole Nine Yards other night with Bruce Willis. It was pretty funny.

Crabby day for me about GNUe. Need to fix documentation. I can only imagine the stuff Stallman must go through in being a purist to free software. No wonder people think he's incorrigible, I am sure the crap he puts up with makes him less than excitable to deal with people wishing to flame him.

Tomorrow I am home alone with kids, so I should get some hacking done during nap and play times. : ) The question is where do I want to focus my time...... I will have to think about it.....

Well playing with eggdrop and bots a bit. Accidently did a fsckem on #gnue when trying to get help on it. : ) Bad Masta, no donut. Ian has bugs kinked out of JForms a bit so java port is moving forward.

Jamest has been very busy moving client and me with life, but hopefully things get back on track quickly. Have a boat load of mail to respond to. I have done well keeping it all read, but been horrible about responding.

Grabbed Evolution last night. It is nice looking but as advertised heavy ALPHA stuff. So not very functional. I will limp along with what I have for the time being.

Man its been a wild day. Things have been going well other than chatter on the GNUe mailing list. Must ignore and stay focused on goal of GNUe not the details of how to collaborate.

Jade returned today. : ) Reinhard made presence on gnome-db list and I think things are looking up. It's about time!

Thanks to jamest and chewie for their support today...

Been out ill a few days and then forgot to make any entries..

Talks have gotten even better with gnome-db team. Rodrigo has really made excellent efforts to remove gtk dependencies. Also we have been discussing report engine which would be great to get extra help.

Trying to get more organized. With a bit of reluctance put sourceforge site up. What a tangled web we weave. :) It is time to roll up sleeves and start getting dirty baby. :) Well time is short hope to keep better journal rest of week.

Talks with red hat continue for the county too. Should have conference call with senior engineers tomorrow. :)

Today was not a good GNUe day in many respects. : (

I wont talk about it. However, I did get off my ass and get the links section working and a postgres account set up for gnue. Bout damn time!!!!

Before getting ready to close out my day swung by irc and found ^chewie and idstewart which brightened my gnue day. Will be busy during coming week, but plan to try to work like hell on gnue.

Jamest is back... No sharks ate him or anything. Good morning on IRC. Ian joined us and it appears the Java client is going well. The event model is getting good discussion for GNUe Forms. Also, some of my nagging questions on business logic are being fleshed out. Hope to throw together something like a simple login sample as proof of concept.

Things are definitely getting interested. Got Reinhard's doc changes into CVS as well as all processed documentation and Ian's IDL v1.6 into CVS this morning. All caught up on mail and everything. Got some stuff off poop list as well. Today is a good day.

More talks with jamest and ian about event model and triggers. The business logic is starting to fall in place. I think jamest maybe on to something I was missing on the objects as datasources. Will need to sleep on it to reaffirm it. Hope we get at least 4 hours in tomorrow to start really pushing the envelope on where gnue forms is headed. I REALLY want something that is downloadable and usable for Purchase Orders by August 15th.

The day starts with meetings. : ) This is normal existence for me as of late. Things going well with project at work.

Reinhard, Arno and myself discussed primary key issues some and moving them into gedi/gnome-db at some point. I just received a proposal back from Reinhard. What a stud. : ) New people keep showing up in IRC and voluntering to help. It is truly wonderful.

Been carrying on discussions with gnome-db team to go full GPL instead of just doing GPL/LGPL standard of Gnome. Their hearts are in the right place, but I fear they will go with the standard Gnome as a copout. : (

Things continue to move forward on getting gnu\linux proposals in front of key players here.

The below entry is really for the 12th. I just made one addition on the 13th at like 1 in the morning.. Stupid thing. I clicked edit. So be warned if you try to edit your diary its likely to change the date of the entry. : )

Good news on several fronts. First I got a new (used) server for gnu\linux here at the county. Getting stuff installed and updated on it... Best news is that have green light to continue talks with Red Hat about migrating Novell to gnu\linux opposed to windows2000. This could be huge. I am hoping we can pull a case study out of it to get Red Hat some press, while giving us a superior solution.

Been keeping up with mail today, but have a ton of work to do here. Hope by this weekend I can clear way for some more GNUe development. Several more people have shown interest and Jade has indicated he should be back in full force next week! Yeah! James will be returning and we will be rocking again. I hope to see first beta module by mid August at the latest. : ) I also hope gnome-db continues to be a good route for us.

Well spent most of the day playing with stuff for my project at work. We are getting ever closer. If only those requirements would stand still. : ) Bummed I missed BorCon, but then again I dont use many of those tools anymore so not a big loss. I wanna make LinuxWorld, but dont know if its feasible or not.

Must get to work on FCM and G4C more. My wife keeps telling me to take on more projects. Maybe she is right. HAHAHAHA... Sorry lack of sleep has put me in a goofy mood...

So much fun implementing a prop system for a large enterprise. I can not wait until the day GNU Enterprise is far enough that I can bring to an organization the size of the County

Spoke with guys from Red Hat yesterday and am trying to fast track a proposal to use RedHat instead of Windows 2000 to replace our current Novell file and print servers. This would be a huge win. : )

Dug a PII-350 128mb RAM out of the store room to install Linux on and setup CVS/Apache etc on for demonstrations here at the County. Hope to get some literature written on free software and the government and selling a company on free software opposed to open software.

All in all life is good today, but very busy. GNUe mailing list picking up quite a bit and looking forward to spending more time on the project in the near future.

I could choke balsa. Stupid thing has issues. I have tried to be a good boy and submit bugs etc.. Evolution is to be out today maybe I go there. : ) Responded to half a million emails. (Jamest Save Me) Got Paolo and Ian's code checked into CVS for them. Need to get cracking on my crap list items before jamest comes back and kills me for not getting them done. : ) It is WAY late and I cant run on 4 hours sleep for many more days.......
