I finally finished a first patch to port dvbsrc and ts-tools (which are needed to convert the mpeg transport stream into something gstreamer can play) to 0.10. You can see the results at #344987.

Unfortunately the live playback of video does not work because of clocking issues that are far behind my gstreamer knowledge. Anyway, it's quite easy to record the mpeg stream and this really works good. DVB-S, DVB-C and DVB-T are supported though I only tested DVB-T

And want to thanks the people on #gstreamer and #linuxtv here for there patience and for answering all my questions!

Seit gestern habe ich beschlossen auf jeden Fall jedes weitere WM-Spiel der Deutschen auf Großbildleinwand anzuschauen! Das war ja der absolute Hammer, auf jeden Fall kann man sich hier wirklich nicht über mangelnde Begeisterung beschweren! Aber immer dran denken, noch ist Polen nicht verloren...

Die CD von den Sportfreunde hab ich mir natürlich auch gekauft. Das musste einfach sein, weil sich das Lied gestern in der Stadt ziemlich schnell zum Inoffiziellen WM-Lied gemausert hatte.

Finally, if I happen to want to watch football at home, I finished the dvbsrc for gstreamer-0.10! It works very nice but does not make much sense in the moment because there is no transport stream demuxer yet for gstreamer. You can record the ts-stream and watch it with xine but that is not what I want! I am working on it but I might get some patent and copyright problems with it because I have not MPEG-License of course.

Finally figured out how to make the Network Manager working on my Ubuntu Dapper system. Anything you need to do is to set all network connection to active/dhcp in network-admin. Anyway, I find this quite confusing because I think the Network Manager should override the default settings if I want to connect to a network.

Anyway, I am trying to figure out how to port the gstreamer dvbsrc to 0.10. Anything builds fine know but I cannot fetch any data from /dev/dvb/adapter0/dvr0! I will have to investigate this further!

... Anjuta 2.0.2, the latest release of the one and only Gnome IDE. Many things have improved and should be quite stable now. For a detailed descriptions of the changes, see the NEWS.

For those who really want it, naba even presented some early alpha of a vim plugin.

We are sorry, that most users will not be able to use the nice glade + devhelp features because of bugs in libdevhelp and glade3. Anyway, PeSc|O is lucky and he has made a nice screenshot.

We still need more people to help - feel free to join us at #anjuta if you have some spare time!

Some Mozilla developer was kind enough to write a widget which can be easily embedded into a gtk application. Anyway, the widget has several problems which are quite important if you want to add it to a docking widget:

• It does strange things if not realized
• It stops working if it is reparented

To get around this I have created a wrapper widget around it which automaticly creates a gtkmozembed widget on "realize" with g_idle_add(create_widget) and destroys the gtkmozembed widget on "unrealize". Et voilà, we have a working Devhelp plugin in Anjuta.

Great, I love people who make assumptions about segmentation faults. But computers are incorrupt, they don't make assumptions and users maybe corrupt but they don't care about assumptions and they both know Murphy's Law.

This may work for years but some time is will crash and this time was: today! Bless god that this was just about Anjuta and not about a mars mission!

Please, do not ever do this! You have been warned!

Lago di Garda

I spent three great days at the lago di Garda in Italy and felt like seeing the sun the first time this year! We did a lot of climbing. It was a great ending of the semester break after I passed all exams.

To come to the things you are really interesting in: We are planning an anjuta release the end of this month. It will feature a lot of nice things and might even include IComplete if it gets finished until then.

Seb is also working on a new debugger which will not be included in the release but will replace the current (buggy) debugger in long-term. You can have a look at it in the anjuta-new-debugger branch.

I also tried to show the complete argument list of each function but that cluttered the screen to much and I switched it off again. It is, by the way, a real challange to create such popup windows in gtk but with the help of many people on IRC I finally managed it.

At first I have to say that the gnome system tools are very well intergrated in ubuntu and gives you the feeling that everything fits.

Anyway, the gnome network configuration is really bad. It is highly unclear how to manage profiles because you never know if you change an existing profile, make changes without any profile or create a new one! If you return to the configuration it is not even shown which profile is active.

Take a look at the IBM Connection Manager and you can see how this can be done. Maybe the configuration needs more modes here: One for networking without any profiles (e.g. Desktop PC) and one for multi-profile support (e.g. Notebooks).

Another point is the network monitor: If I have selected a profile where eth0 is not active it is useless that the network monitor show me that. I should show the next active network which is much more interesting..

Also have a look at 40+ Suggestions for Better Desktop which is right in many points IMHO.

GNOME 2.14 ist out though I hardly noticed it because Ubuntu updated very smooth from the last release candidate. Anyway, it's nice to see it stable and thanks to everyone who helped getting this done!

I fixed many bugs in Anjuta last week and there are still many left. I hope we will be able be do a nice and stable release within the next months and it is looking good in the moment. We even have someone who writes an updated tutorial - thanks in advance!

While trying to implement autocompletion I have learned much about regular expressions and finally it "just worked" (tm)!

Unfortunately Gnome has not yet moved over to Subversion but I hope it will happen soon. There is a list of files which have to be moved to other locations in the tree and it is a mess to do this in CVS.
