Claudio's adsl line was fixed and broked again. In the mean time my line is working only with the internal modem. ARgh.
Conectiva Linux 6.0 will be a good distro (when it's ready), whe are busy trying to get it finished.

Oh. more bad news from the DSL front-line. My phoneline is in the same "hub" of claudio. As you can see in claudio's diary, his phone was broked by the telco people. now adsl AND voice arent working in claudio's phone. I'll wait this mess to finish, after that I'll buy my external modem. There is some rumors about the telco company starting to offer externals, too, I'll wait and see.
Unrelated news: I'm reading "Garden of RAMA" now (I've readed the first and the second books of RAMA in 4 days. hehe.).
Adding the strange list hardware list that claudio started, there is a lot of Palms, Newtons, Some really old portables (some 386's, some 486's), some VAIOs & Toshibas, MSX, Amigas, a dual Pentium Pro with a girl's name, and a lot of another bunch.
I made this week an interesting filter for an ezmlm list: This list now only accept signed (GPG) mails. Interesting. Oh: It's FREEZE time for Conectiva Linux 6.0. I've found a ugly bug in PHP 3.0.17: If you compile it with --enable-versioning, the modules (mysql, pgsql, imap, ldap, etcetera) doesnt work. :-/
In the mean time, we (eitch made it) published this week an interview with the Debian-BR people. Good. Take a look.

My problems now are with the internationalization of http://distro.conectiva.com.br, it's almost there. Only a few more little bits to be finished.. Claudio it's doing a good job with GIMP.. I'll ask him to put his artwork visible outside (it's in our intranet now).
We released today our first public beta of Conectiva 6.0. Goodies, goodies, goodies: XFree 4, LPRng, CUPS, grup instead of LILO, new GCC, etc. But the great news is apt-get rpm-enabled. I can do a
apt-get upgradein a RPM-based distribution, and better: It works! :)
OH. FENASOFT. I have to rest for one entire week to recover from FENASOFT. A total of 8 speech's plus that crowded stand for 6 days. The only interesting thing about FENASOFT it's that Conectiva Linux 5.1 Server Edition, launched @FENASOFT, was choosed the best software of FENASOFT 2000.
Hmm. One week later from my last "weekry" :-). In the weekend I was in Blumenau for my 4-year anniversary of my wedding. :-). In the mean time, the "Web Tools" Project is moving along. My home in mean time is busy. An Uncle of mine (and family) is arriving 19/07, and the brother of my wife (and family) is arriving 22/07 , and I'm going to FENASOFT @ 23/07 (!!). Oh.
I have to prepare today my speech for the Fenasoft Congress. Oh. Boredom.
Hmm. From 17 jun to now? I gave a speech about Conectiva Linux 5.1 server edition to half Conectiva (non tech depts), great. Because of that speech I'll talk that speech (half of) in FENASOFT, at Conectiva's stand. I'll give a "Linux as a server in a heterogeneous network" and other speech that I don't remember right now @FENASOFT congress, too.

I'm planning a heavy clean-up in this weekend in the PontoBR code to release it in GPL.. I have to centralize the configuration, make the layout configurable, etc. In the Conectiva side, I'm figh^H^H^H^Hworking in the SASC code (ask Andreas the meaning of SASC :)) AH. @Home I'm now trying the ReiserFS thing in my root partition.. (Conectiva Linux Servidor 5.1 Beta). Rodarvus/GWM/etcetera thinks that I'm late in the "I've got to try this ReiserFS" thing..
Oh, another PontoBR-related news. PontoBR was invited to integrate the LUG's-booth in Linux Expo Brasil. We are thinking: "Great!. But what PontoBR will do in a Linux Expo?" Besides, We have to get banners or sponsors to pay the costs of the trip/hotel/equipment/etcetera..
Since my last diary entry, we sended a lot of articles/news to lwn, linuxpr, linuxtoday, bugtraq, etcetera. great, Conectiva everywhere! :)
PontoBR was down from monday until yesterday. The support people from Matrix take it down, using the argument that my code (persistent connections to MySQL via mysql_pconnect() in PHP) was taking the entire server down.. ?!?! !@#()&!@. I have to dedicate more time to PontoBR..
The new automated announce system is taking form, playing with multilingual ideas for the other Midgard sites @Conectiva.. cool.
Probably my Midgard RPM's dont go in Servidor 5.1, freeze time, oh. Probably this is hapening because I'm a complete RPM-NEWBIE. I hate that :-/.
We (Aurélio, Andreas and me) have decided that the actual submission update system earned the right to a complete rewrite. database-design-time.
New HTML Parser: The long-awaited libxml2 based HTML parser code is live. It needs further work but already handles most markup better than the original parser.
