No hacking lately. Been sick as the proverbial. I hate being sick. Blah. Whine whinge grumble.
Oh, and the stupid collegehouse server (where I get my net connection) filled up their disk last Friday and nobody's fixed it yet. Went down today to the office to complain to the house manager and explained that the server disk was full (which I only happened to know from its sendmail error codes) and she said, I quote, "We're written to the company who installed the system to complain." I hate dealing with non-techies. Argh. I've half a mind to break into the server room and fix the bloody thing myself.

Finished scanning in all my artwork, for those who are
interested. Returned the scanner to my parents. Want my
own!

Been programming LPC stuff for Sanctuary MUD. A steep
learning curve for LPC and there's fuck-all documentation
out there that seems to be appropriate. Having fun though,
programming pets that follow you around the mud. My new
timesink I think.

Finished the artwork scripts. All the filenames and
descriptions and alt texts stored in a file and a
put-stuff-here HTML template and it all works perfectly.
Not all my art is scanned yet but you can see the third of
it that is scanned up here.
I'm pleased with the scripts, they do exactly what I
wanted. Yay!

Coded a little tonight. I've been Having A Life lately
and haven't had time to get into hackmode, but I coded a bit
tonight. Just a script to display my artwork
jpegs properly, with a nifty little datafile to look up the
proper description for every file. Saves writing a separate
html file for each picture and I'm Lazy as defined in the
Perl book. It's not quite working yet but I'll chuck it
into my code directories when it's done.

More frobbing of the mail-summary-display script. It now
uses Mail::Folder, GetArgs::Std and MuttAliasas, and runs
faster to boot. I know this probably isn't something
anybody else is ever going to use
because there are zillions of them out there ... To answer
Skud's good Quality Vs Quantity article, I
guess it's my getting-back-into-coding-again version of
"Hello World". I'll get better.

On the useful-to-the-world side of life, I emailed
modules@perl.org about a new module that parses and does
lookups and reverse-lookups of Mutt aliases files. It's all
written and is being used (see above) but it needs a proper
name before I upload it to CPAN.

Tried to frob my mail-summary-displaying script to use
Mail::Folder instead of doing it by hand. Of course I tried
to do this when I was feeling hideous and not in any
condition for programming so I totally fscked up the
script. Thank heavens for backups.

Yes, I know there's lots of scripts out there that do
this but this one's mine and it does some slightly
weirdass stuff like getting my voice synth to announce who's
writing me mail, etc. Besides, it's a good easy way of
getting back into hacking. I'll fix it tomorrow when I'm
feeling better.

Finally fixed my webcounters today. It's nice to have some
spare brainpower. They've been broken for months and I
hadn't got around to fixing them. Must remember to put it
on my code page tomorrow.

Finished the Mail2News Mini-HOWTO yesterday and got it
uploaded to the LDP.
It had been sitting around nearly-finished since last
November so I'm very glad it's done.

Updated gfr
(mostly documentation changes) and uploaded that this
morning. I'm really getting back into this coding gig.

I love hacking away at scripts. One day I'm going
to get my act together and write a cross between slrn and
Mutt using Perl and about a zillion Perl modules. It's
going to be called PMinor. One day ... *wanders off
into dreamland*
