(un)Complicating Your Life: a primer
or
How not to Give Unsolicited Advice

chipx86:

Life feels very confusing lately. I've pretty much ceased contact with Megan, who never even seemed to recognize the fact that I had an interest in her (despite my constant efforts). My friend Steph was pretty good at helping me through this. Mentally, I know that Megan isn't right for me, but I still have feelings, which is tough. So, I've avoided her, or at least tried to, but today she was in my Japanese class. She and her friend started writing little notes back and forth (I couldn't read them). Then they would look at me and giggle and smile. I have absolutely no idea what they were talking about, but it didn't make me too comfortable...
and
...Megan's schedule aren't too compatible, I'll be taking the 9:00 bus so I can spend an hour with her. I just wish something could happen here, but it can't. She doesn't want that, I can tell... Just friends. Sigh... Just as long as she's happy.

just ask her out, none of this "i can tell" bullshit, none of this martyring crap. if she says, "no", fine, then you can decide to be or not to be just friends without that little doubt in the back of your mind that maybe, just maybe something will happen. if something will happen later after you are just friends, it will happen later.

you're only screwing yourself over by trying to get her to lead you on and missing out on other relationships (either as just a friend to her, etc). and you're not doing anything good for her either, so don't dress it up like that.

*cough* not that i'd know.
