The meeting with Salvador went fine... he came down to Pune. We exchanged our keys first... and then were roaming around in Pune.

The Bangalore trip looks exciting right now... leaving in 3 days

Lots of things happening: Gunnar Wolf, my sponsor for the libfilesys-smbclient-perl Debian package has been very very helpful. It's now in the archives. He's also been very supporting of me joining Debian. He's prodding me to do it since a long time now; and also got me in touch with another DD, Salvador Abreu, who's currently visiting Mumbai. I'm going to Mumbai on Sunday to meet him and get my keys signed. Guess it'll be a good start for the NM process.

I'm also off to Bangalore from the 26th Dec to the 6th Jan. A long vacation. Agenda: meet up with some friends, meet a copule (the only?) of DDs in India and sign keys.

Among other news, AudioLink has been progressing pretty well. v0.05 was released last week, it saw a lot of changes, a new script that makes creating a config-file for oft-used options and the database a breeze. Manual pages were added, so there's a lot of ready documentation available now. The Debian package too has been built; am waiting for a sponsor for it to be uploaded. In all, I think AudioLink is shaping up to be a good music categorizer / cataloguer.

I'll keep you updated about how my meeting with Salvador goes... promises to be fun! :-)

Back after the Diwali vacations last week. All of last week, I was packaging and re-packaging libfilesys-smbclient-perl and libogg-vorbis-header-perl for the Debian distribution. Got some very helpful feedback from the debian-mentors list and seems libfilesys-smbclient-perl has a sponsor. I'm still waiting for a sponsor for the 2nd package.

libfilesys-smbclient-perl: Allows to browse smb shares in your perl script. Planning to now work on the LAN crawler for the AudioLink project. More info on smbclient here.

Worked on the Ogg Vorbis comments today. Got a major release of AudioLink out. Hurray!

Again, a long time before any updates... the advodiary package helps a lot in posting new stuff, but I still feel it isn't convenient enough. Now that I konw perl (look below), I'll write the korganizer-advogato plugin (hopefully I can add perl modules as plugins to korganizer...). This will also help me get organized and actually maintain stuff in korganizer.

I've just released the first tarballs of the AudioLink project. AudioLink helps you manage your local music collection, and makes searching for music easier. I've long wanted some tool like this. I found some, but didn't use them... I wanted to come up with my own solution. This way, I get to learn perl the right way (from scratch and not reading others' code), design docs, administer a project, and all the thrills associated with starting a new project.

There are a lot of things to be done, and the todo list is growing by the day. I'm sure those things can be fixed real fast... When I first designed the project (4 weeks ago), I didn't know perl. I saw it as two modules. Now that I have the two modules ready (the 2nd module, search, took 1 day to code, and the 1st module, filldb, took 1/2 a day...), I know how cool perl is... I've only read the first chapter of the excellent Programming Perl book (Larry Wall, Tom Christiansen) and some docs on the 'net (related to getopts and reading mp3 id3 tags).

AudioLink is pretty usable in this release... what's missing is some features, but I'm using it on my desktop daily... and am pretty happy with the way it's working right now. There's a lot of documentation available on how to use it, how to interpret errors, etc. Feel free to try it out and post comments. The mailing lists aren't working currently, seems like sf.net has a problem. Send your feedback directly to me till then. I'm reachable at <amitshah@users.sourceforge.n e t>.

One of my friends, Rahul Agarwal, tried out AudioLink and liked the idea... and has contributed some code too. Thanks, Rahul... I'll take a look at the patches and send in my comments.

whew... long time since an update... well, looking at the older entries, seems I was in kernel hacking mood... one of my patches did go in (in 2.5.71 AFAICR), but it was a simple one-liner. Nothing much since then, other than reading up on stuff and killing time..

I've now started signing my email messages, here's my public key.

The www.v3space.com guys have stopped their ftp service, it seems, that really makes updating my website frustrating.... _Have_ to do something about it!
