I've been quite busy... Eventhough, I haven't been idle on my personal projects.

SCEW. Since the last post I have released three versions of SCEW, and I'm really happy for it. If you have ever used this library, you should have noticed many changes and improvements, some made by me and some made by contributors. Guys, I really appreciate your contributions. Thanks!

Wireless. I have also entered the wireless world. Right now, I'm just having some fun with it, playing with Linux HostAp, my Belkin PCMCIA cards and some other stuff. However, I don't have many time to play with it.

WePS. I have a contribution of a user system that I should have add some months ago, but I haven't. I'm very sad for this. May be this is one of the problems of Free Software: I have no time to update it, and I know that a lot of people is waiting for it... Well, may be it is really my problem, because I started other projects and stopped this one, which was probably the biggest... Please, be patience.

So long. Yes, my last post was on Jan 13. Many things occured in my life since then, but most of them are personal and boring things...so lets go to the interesting stuff. What about my contributions?

SCEW. I have just uploaded a new version (0.2.0) of SCEW (the Expat wrapper). This new release has almost been internally rewritten, but still keeps the same interface. It now supports XML tree creation and writing. Well, I'm happy for this new release but I'd like to have more time to code more free software...anyway...

WePS. What about it? Two weeks ago, two students from the Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona (where i get my degree in Computer Science), contributed a unix-like user/group system. Just let me say, that it is really cool, and is what everyone that uses WePS was waiting for. Thanks Cristina and Andres! I'll add this to the official WePS branch as soon as I can.

Free Software. Next friday a Free Software conference will be held in Barcelona (at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra). I'm really happy with this meeting. No need to say, that i will assist. Guess who is one of the lecturers (don't know if this is the right word in english)? Richard Stallman, in a few words: the father of the GNU/Free Software movement. Exciting!

Operating Systems. I finally formatted all my hard drive. By now, i just have FreeBSD installed on it. I will definitely install a Debian GNU/Linux for testing and a Debian GNU/Hurd system to play with. I'm trying to learn some more (i think i should say something instead of some more...anyway) about Operating Systems hacking and see if i can do some translators for the GNU/Hurd.

SCEW. I have just released SCEW 0.1.1 about an hour ago. This release includes two major bug fixes. If you use SCEW, just install it. If you don't, you are not my friend anymore! ;-)

As this post is getting too long and i don't feel like to write anything else, just a last thing:

Good night!

SCEW. I've released the first version of the Simple C Expat Wrapper. Check out the homepage!

Holidays. I'm going to Milan this weekend...Well, from friday to sunday night. My girlfriend works there during the week so we will enjoy the weekend there.

Bad luck. It seems that last month bad luck has come to my family. Someone stole my wallet in the subway, my mother fell down a horse and someone stole lots of money to my father... And guess what? I needed my identification card (that was in the wallet) to visit Italy... Is someone pulling my leg?

Anyway...

Home page. Right now you can read this diary entry from the diary in my advogato account or from my home page. Nice, isn't it? This can be done with XML-RPC via PHP. I've used usefulinc XML-RPC classes. If you are interested in consulting your advogato diary or someone's else, i have published the class that does the job.

SCEW. Simple C Expat Wrapper (SCEW) is an Expat wrapper that helps you reading XML files in a DOM's way instead of the SAX way provided by Expat. I thought it could be useful, so i decided to do an LGPL library. I'm actually pulishing it, but it will be available in a few days. You can check the current documentation online.

HHKB. I bought another Happy Hacking Keyboard, so i have one at home and the other at work... no more pain! If you use The One True Editor, i recommend one of those.

I've been a long time without posting anything to my diary. Why? Well, may be i should say: "too much work", but i know nobody would trust me. Anyway, here is what i've been doing.

WePS. I've released four more versions of this PHP script since my last posting, the last one was yesterday. It has no many changes, but some bug fixes and some minor feature enhancements. I will stop improving it for a while, because i have a little project in mind (i'll talk about it in a while).

Books. Books? What books?... I finished "More Effective C++" by Scott Meyers. A wonderful book, but i think i prefer the first one, but this one is still a must read. My next book is "Effective STL" also by Scott Meyers. Let's see if i can read it in a month or less...mmmmhhh...may be that's too much for me ;). I aslo started "Hackers", but haven't finished yet, it's nice to see how all the things begun, a great book that i'll finish shortly. Well... no more books...

Anaphora. What is Anaphora? Anaphora is the new project that i was talking about. But what is it? It's just a graphical tool to configure a key handler. A key handler? Yep! the Openbox window manager comes with a key handler (or key grabber) to give you the power and quickness of hotkeys (the key handler is called epist or Epistrophy). Exercise: Look at the dictionary and guess why this projet is called Anaphora. So, Anaphora will give you a GUI to configure Epistrophy. That's it.

Mmmmmhhhhh.... I think i don't have much more to say, so you'll have to wait five more months to know more about my life, just joking :).

FreeBSD. Upsss...i forgot to say that i've installed FreeBSD in my computer. It's a shame (evil grin) but Windows is not anymore stealing space in my hard disk. Let's see if i can enter the Emacs church.

Happy hacking!

WePS. Version 0.2 released. After two months i finally upload the new version. i18n and some new features have been added and of course lots of bugs have been fixed... anyway, we still have lot of work to do.

Debian GNU/Hurd. I quit playing with Debian GNU/Hurd...

Hurd. Great! yesterday i got WindowMaker up and running! It goes a little bit slow, but it works. Of course i'm not used to Hurd yet, when i get ready, let's see in what i can help.

It was very funny playing with the console, using screen, emacs and erc. But i still prefer a graphic desktop. I found someone in #hurd that doesn't like graphic desktops... that sounds weird for me.

Anyway... i like playing with Hurd.
WePS. Version 0.1.5 released. I added an important missing feature: delete category. I also changed GIF images to PNG due to patent problems. And of course, some bugs have been fixed.

Hurd. Yesterday i installed Debian GNU/Hurd at home. I'd like to contribute in anything i can, but i must get used to it first. I also asked a friend of mine to do some painting job... i'll tell you what...
WePS. Version 0.1.4 released. WePS didn't work with all PHP configurations. Thanks Joaquin!

Have a nice weekend!
