gEDA, GSoC, and BarCamp Boston 4

Regretfully, the gEDA project was not accepted into GSoC 2009. Maybe next year. Many thanks for Stuart Brorson for doing all the admin leg work again this year.

Either way, gEDA development continues, slowly. I have a whole slew of projects/tasks that I really ought to find some time to work on. Although some of my free time is spent working on non-gEDA free software.

I am looking forward to attending BarCamp Boston 4 in 10 days. :)

The gEDA project has been accepted into GSoC 2008 as a mentoring organization. We are grateful for this opportunity for the second year now (thanks Google)!

If you are a student who is interested in free software and working on electronic circuit design please checkout gEDA's GSoC 2008 page as well as the suggested projects page.

For more info on the project in general, please checkout the gEDA homepage.

-Ales

New year, new look for gEDA website

I spent part of today giving the gEDA website a new look with the logo on the left and the two line nav bar on the right. I also properly templated the wiki to look like the rest of the site. Hopefully these changes will work with all the mainstream browsers out there.

The idea and prototype for melding the logo into the blue line came from Peter Clifton. Peter also created working html and css to make it work on more than just Firefox. Many thanks Peter.

Welcome to my new blog. I used to write occasionally (read: rarely) on Advogato, but now I might post some things here. I might even syndicate this blog over there. Pretty much all my free software development time is still spent working on gEDA.

Might as well start off with some real content. I've written up the steps for doing a gEDA/gaf release here (on the gEDA wiki). Comments always welcome.

Finally. Got another (20050820) release of gEDA done. Even after seven years of working on the same project, I still enjoy it. Always something to fix or change or improve. :-)

Oh look, a second diary update this year!

Anyways, since I'm still shameless, here's a rather well written article about gEDA in EEDesign. These sorts of things are always fun.

Still active with gEDA, though real life has been keeping me quite busy.

Time for the yearly diary update...

Work on gEDA is still progressing (April 1st was the 6 year anniversary), even though the past few months have been insanely busy due to my personal life and I haven't been able to dedicate the time I want to the project. I'm hoping that the middle of May will be more sane. I am beginning to see the gEDA suite be used more and more, especially with real world examples like Ronja. Here's a link to a finished board which was built using gEDA and PCB.

Now for a truly shameless plug:
Stuart Brorson and I will be giving a talk on gEDA at DeLUGE on May 5th. Yah! Here's the link to the nylug-announce announcement. This is going to be a fun talk.

Oh my. Last diary entry too long ago.

I'm still spending all my free software time working on gEDA/gaf. Just got another release out the door (20030525). I really ought to catch up on some e-mail now and start thinking about what I want to fix for the next release.

Ah, another gEDA/gaf release done: 20020825.

This one includes the symbol/schematic attribute changes I have been wanting to do for a while now. So far nobody has complained (that's a good thing. :-) I tried to make the transition as painless as possible by providing perl scripts to update the symbol/schematics to use the new attributes.

Just finished another release of gEDA/gaf (20020527),
including the release notes and freshmeat announcement.
This release included a bunch of user interface improvements
and the first release of the MinGW port (cygwin port is
obsolete). It's really quite sad, the Win32 port is more
popular than then Linux/Unix port (as far as downloads go).
