Woo. Finally after many months, I got another release out (20020209). Nothing revolutionary, but it did include a whole slew of contributed patches/symbols/code etc... Now I need to spend some time and get the mingw port done. I have most of this week free to work on gEDA. :-)

Got another gEDA release out the door this morning. Spent almost all of my energy doing the cygwin port as well as a bunch of bug fixes. I still need to do the freshmeat announcement thing.

In my last diary entry I stated that a switch to C++ might affect my user base. Probably not, as long as the tools work as advertised (which they seem to do). What might be affected (a lot) is the developer base for gEDA. Not too many people know C++ well enough. :-( Something to certainly consider.

Okay, I finally got the release notes done for 20010708. I also managed to submit an update to freshmeat, so I guess I'm golden for this release. Though I have yet to hear from anybody whether things worked or not. In the past, silence seems to indicate that things work just fine.

On to the next release. So much TODO. I also need to spend some quality time working on the design of the first rewrite. I'm really going toward doing it in C++ (as that is what I have been doing all my work work in and I've grown quite fond of it). The last time I suggested C++ to the general geda-dev list, I took some flamage. I'm not sure what effect going to an unpopular (just public perception) lang will do to my user base (some people were positive, some indifferent, some threating a general revolt). For those that are interested, gEDA is currently written in C with guile as the scripting language. The choice of scheme as the scripting lang was probably one of my better decisions.

Wheee... I did manage to get out a release on Sunday night (the 8th)! :-), however I haven't had a chance to write proper release notes because of a housing crisis (needed to find a new place real quick :-), but I should be back on the ball today.

Hmmm... just created an account, so far so good.

Let's see. I'm two days from getting a gEDA release out the door. Too bad it has taken me 4 months to get it done. Bummer. At least it is a juicy release with some useful new functionality and lots of bugfixes.
