I finally got the creative juices going again. The funny thing is that I did it by working on a project who's last release 2 and 1/2 months ago. DataBind 0.3 is now available at http://databind.sf.net/. I added support for loading and storing collections of objects as well as for specifying search parameters in a data-store independant method.

Now if I can spend some time on EdenCRM...

I just can't get myself going today. I got postfix working on the Mandrake box I set up, along with IMAP and Tomcat. I know I need to work and be productive but I am just feeling drained today. I am not even in the mood to work on my open source projects. Guess this is one of those wasted days.

Finally installing a personal server for my site. I got fed up with my hosting company's crap...the most recent being the hacking of their credit card database. Haven't these people heard of firewalls? Anywho, I am installing Mandrake 8 and am going to work on making it a nice little machine for my personal work.

FormProc

Lots of good work getting done on FormProc. Several suggestions have come in over the last week-and-a- half and I am implementing them now that the holiday is done and gone. New release coming soon (need to test first.)

My new laptop is finally on order. I am looking forward to getting mobile. I am going to configure the machine so I can use it as my primarily development machine - no more waiting until I get home to write software. I have to remember that a vacation is a time to get away from computers.

I just realized after who-knows how many years that my email address on my web site was not correct. How many emails do you think I have missed because of this minor oversight? And is it necessarily a bad thing that I have missed all of those emails? :-)

freetype: All I can say is I know what you are feeling. Losing a month worth of work really sucks. I once formatted a hard drive and lost 2 years worth of music I had composed. I haven't worked on music much since then. (OK, its not really because I lost all of my work, but because I have triplets to take care of, but the story sounds more depressing if I blame it on technical mistake.)

Signature Domains is now running the Generic Registry Interface (GRI) from the Universal Registry Client project for all domain name registrations. So far it is working fairly well. I am going to get to work documenting the code so that I can release a 1.0 version of the GRI within the next few weeks.

Airport

My Apple Airport, which is about a year old, is flaking out on me. It refuses to get a DHCP address from my Motorola cable modem. I am not happy about this. Everything was working fine a few weeks ago when I was using DSL, but then it just stopped working. I couldn't connect to the DSL modem at all, even with a direct connection from an iMac to the modem with an ethernet cable. I called DirectTV Broadband (who bought out Telocity) and was told by a cold and unfeeling voice that wait times were over an hour! I decided right then and there that it was time for another solution - hence the cable modem.

Now, what gets me is that I can connect a single machine to that cable modem and it works fine. All of my machines with Airport cards can connect fine to the Airpot, but no matter what I do the Airport won't talk with the cable modem! Grr...

I called Apple again - we will see if there is any solution to this. I already spent 3 hours working on it last night, including upgrading the software to 1.3.1. I am ready to scrap the whole thing, but it seems like such a waste considering the amount of money I have invested in it. Maybe I should just go buy another Airport...

Not that I want to be a pain or anything, but Advogato sure puts a lot of trust in its users. I mean, I can edit a project that I added myself to without any authentication that I really should be working on that project.

Dot biz is almost ready to go here at Signature Domains. I am just waiting for the NeuLevel people to put the correct IP addresses in their firewall (I gave them the wrong addresses the first time...doh!) and to test it in the live environment. Signature Domains will now be using the Generic Registry Interface from the Universal Registry Client project for communicating with the different registries which makes me happy. If all goes well over the next few weeks I will probably push the GRI to version 1.0. Of course I am sure that the next registry to come on line will introduce a whole slew of new problems to throw me off...but I will cross that bridge when I get to it.

Now that this is almost over, whatever will I do to fill my days? :-)

Dot BIZ is live now. I stayed up until 2 AM waiting so that I could run some lists we had hanging around. I haven't yet deployed it on the Signature Domains site as I am still integrating the GRI from the Universal Registry Client into our system. It really bites that all three live registries for GTLDs use a different API and communications protocol.

Hopefully I will finish this all up soon so I can go back to working on fun stuff like EdenCRM.

NeuLevel released their Registry toolkit as an open source project today. This is good news for the Universal Registry Client as I can now include the XRP implementation (which I have done as of 3 AM this morning).

Must Sleep

This last week has been exhausting. I have been working 12 hour workdays every day of the week in order to try to make the dot biz certification deadline. I think I am as ready as I will ever be.
