I am back in the office after a long weekend in Copenhagen, Denmark. We visited a friend of mine and did some sightseeing. And we also met with Jens on Friday and had dinner in a restaurant at the Tivoli. A very nice place!
Only three more days of work, before our three-week vacation starts.
On Friday, I will be in Düsseldorf, Germany, giving an introduction of SuSE Linux 7.0 live at GIGA TV (between 3 and 4 pm).
Oh boy - I am at home again. Linux World was a lot of fun - I met a load of people and had good talks. Linux really is big business now. Unfortunately I did not manage to write on the diary during this time - it was hard enough to keep up with all the email.
Some highlights from the past week:
I finally arrived in San Jose after being awake for more than 24 hours - I feel a little dizzy!
I never want to fly to the US via Canada again! First you have to immigrate to Canada, then you have to fill out more immigration forms for the US. I tried to apply for an INSpass, but they do not issue them to Germans at the moment - Congress has to prolong this law first.
Fortunately the Internet access is working! Caught up with email and went to sleep.
Today I will first try to organize a rental car and head for the convention center afterwards. People are already busy with setting up the booth.
I'm getting ready for LinuxWorld. I received a laptop from our pool today - it's an IBM TP570. Neat, especially without the huge docking bay. I hope the batteries last long enough - I enjoy listening to MP3s and playing games during intercontinental flights.
Yesterday I was busy updating some of my packages.
Started working on packaging usbview - it should be ready by today.
Back after a very relaxing weekend (at least Sunday was relaxing - we had to clean up the flat on Saturday...)
Watched to very weird movies on DVD: Being John Malkovitch and Dogma. Both very very difficult to understand in the original english version - I guess I have to watch them in German again to fully understand them.
This week we were all very busy with the 7.0 finalization.
I was also helping out the marketing people to fix typos and technically incorrect statements and info on the 7.0 boxes and product descriptions. A perfect job for a nitpicker like me :)
We finally booked a vacation destination for September. Check http://www.cocobay.de if you want to drool...
But before going to Antigua, I will be in San Jose (Linux World Expo) and in Copenhagen, Denmark (visiting a friend). More miles - hopefully I have enough to gain Senator status soon.
Well, it already is Monday again. I took last Friday off, and it was a long (but busy) weekend.
A review of the past days:
Picked up Dave from the Airport on wednesday and went out for pizza. We took a walk around the offices on Thursday and had a nice talk. Dave will start working for the SuSE Labs now. Yes!
We drove to Heidelberg on Friday - my Scuba diving school had their annual party, and I was DJ-ing there. For the first time, I also brought a laptop and was using MP3s for the party. It worked our pretty well and a lot of people were amazed. Linux rocked the house! Unfortunately it rained a lot, so it was not as busy as in the past years. But people danced later on anyway and we had a good time. Did not get much sleep, though...
Saturday was a friend's wedding. There was way too much food involved and it was fun meeting people we haven't seen for years.
We drove home on Sunday and ended up in front of the TV with Pizza. Very relaxed!
Looks like I will never be a frequent diary writer :)
Anyway, I am back to work after a fun weekend. SuSE had a great party on saturday night. I was DJ-ing with a colleague and people were actually dancing until we quit at about 5am. The equipment was great - I gotta have one of those Pioneer CD players (CDJ-500S) we had!
Enjoyed the Weekend in the Mannheim/Heidelberg area and went out for dinner with my sisters and their boyfriends on Friday and with a bunch of friends on Saturday. My new Compaq 21-inch screen safely arrived at my parent's home, so I had some fun getting this one into our car and up the four floors at home.
After unpacking it, I felt a bit disappointed - the screen has the exact diameter than my old 19-inch Sony monitor! Seems like monitor vendors seemed to be more honest in former times. Oh well. At least the picture quality is much better and I can finally run higher resolutions, too.
Took the old monitor to the office. I now have two large screens on my desktop! As soon as the testing for 7.0 is finished, I will attach the Sony to my workstation as well and toy with the new XFree86 features like Xinerama :)
Fortunately the rain stopped on Sunday evening and I was able to cruise a small tour with my bike. It was about time!
I'm almost gone for the weekend. We will be driving to Mannheim over the weekend to meet old friends and visit our parents. No Net access for the next two days...
New HTML Parser: The long-awaited libxml2 based HTML parser code is live. It needs further work but already handles most markup better than the original parser.
