Slow Riot For New Zer0 Kanada:

  • FINISHED. IT IS DONE!. 9935 words, and it was handed in 10minutes early too. I RULE! Not doing anything university related until Monday nightish.
  • Maybe Tuesday or Wedensday
  • Definitly by Thursday I'll have started something
  • Just read the Metallica anti-napster thing. Agree with most of it, because after all, it's still stealing, no matter how many different layers of sugary coating you put over the top of it. The one single thing that struck me though...in a funny way.
"It is therefore sickening to know that our art is being traded like a commodity rather than the art that it is."

What he really means is "It is therefore sickening to know that our art is being traded like a commodity by people other than our record company, rather than the art it is."
All music is a commodity to record companies, to be bought and sold at will. Still glad to see Jonnyboy Katz can still write shit, and manage to stir up the /. crowd to pull their hypocritical weight around again. Yeah, 2000 /.ers flooding the Metallica chat to complain. Yeah, like the chatroom isn't going to be +m
  • Still staying on the music front (hey, it means a lot to me, I think) I went CD shopping as a "Congratulations for getting your report done, Iain" treat. "So Iain", I hear you all cry, "What did you buy?". Well.
    1. Slow Riot For New Zer0 Kanada - Godspeed You Black Emporer
    2. Mogwai Fear Satan (remixes) - Mogwai
    3. Dirge - Death In Vegas
Listened to Godspeed. 2 tracks - 28minutes. Mogwai is next best in song length: 4 tracks - 48minutes. Then Dirge at a more radio friendly 3 tracks 15minutes.

Godspeed was chillingly beautiful. Alasdair described it as morbid and depressing, yet listening to it I could help but think it was so pretty and couldn't really find anything in it that was depressing, just pretty noise that fills the world. I thought it was the sounds that the whole world should hear, so I turned it up and opened the windows, to let the music soar in an incredibly pretentious sounding mannor. I really think it needs a powerful stereo for it, my little one isn't going to do it justice. Oh well, I'll have to use Alasdairs...

  • Going out to see "People Under The Stairs" tonight. Dunno what they're like, I only heard a 40second clip.
  • Managed to get Linux to OOPS this morning when I disconnected from da 'net. Dunno what happened, probably something with PPPD and 2.3.99-pre5
  • Martin says he's got GNU Emacs to run with Gnomacs....must give this a try.

I had a good line for in here, but it's gone now:

  • Just working on my user manual and then finish up "An introduction to XML-QL" and it'll be printable. It'll be shit reading (I'll put a copy up if anyone wants a laugh)
  • Fraiser is on TV soon. Must go home for that.
  • Trying to work out how to grab the backdrop of the screen and turn it into a GdkPixbuf. I've got something that grabs the data attached to the ESETROOT screen property, turns that into a GdkPixmap, but then gdk_pixbuf_get_from_drawable () barfs with a BadDrawable error. Oh well, now is not the time to worry about it, but I will.
  • Made an omlette tonight. I RULE!
  • Saw the new Brittney Spears video. I sucked majorly. Not that I would have execpted much else (sorry Will :), but it was terrible, the singing was awful, the video artwork, camera work all the guff was just poor. Pity that was all I saw, because the image has stuck in my head, and I don't want it there.
  • Nothing else to say, Putty don't like ssh2, I'm going home

BZR - Branch if piZza Ready:

  • Seems congratulations are heading to Raph all round, but I feel someone very important is being left out of the whole congratulations. Yes, thats right, congratulations medical staff.
  • Bot is here for whoever asked...was it Mazeone?
  • I sent an email to the whole of 3rd and 4th year today...it didn't get through...maybe these things have to be filtered. If it's not through tomorrow, I'll try again.
  • Hardly did any more words today, not even at 7000 yet. Bad Iain. I'm going to work hard tonight, I promise
  • Oh, whoops, I mean "Congratulations Mrs Raph.", yeah, thats it

i am like this when the police finally find me:

  • Well congratulations Raph.
  • Still having fun wif my bot. Added a part command. This perl thing is easy peasy :)
  • Forgot something else earlier: I think I've discovered the problem with open source programming. It's actually the same thing that is right with open source. It's that everything is done in the open. So many people are on the evolution and nautilus mailing lists and really, they shouldn't. I know if GNOME was closed source I wouldn't be doing anything with it, but there's a lot of people execpting far too much from "in development" software.
  • IMHO

Heroin is just too trendy:

  • 6127 words done, 3873 to go, 3 days to go. Piece of piss... 2000 words a day, then write the User and maintence manual, I'm sorted. Wooohoooo.
  • Had much much fun with Hazelbot. Like when some girl said she was turning anorexic and hazelbot replied "Good job you aren't fat." or something to that effect (the grammar was probably worse, and probably some typos...the only thing #teenzone taught it were typos and "Porno!"). Or the point where it just said "fuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuck(etc)" and got told off for being rude.
  • Decided Hazelbot is what I need to learn perl with. I can add features to it until it takes over the world, or at least has a part/join command. Disconnecting it, editting the script and re-running is not the easiest way to change channels. Oh and I also want it to log private messages that it gets, just to see if anyone pays attention when it comes up with "16/f/horny canada teenx pics dcc me msg me dcc me msg me plz"
  • On software front, I ended up resurrecting a project I started about 6months ago and forgot about...I found it sitting in the directory, and started playing with it again. No more will be said about it, so don't ask, cos if I have to discuss it with anyone, I'll want to work on it, and with "final final exams ever" coming up, random hacking on stuff is a bad idea.
  • This metashit is just getting silly. Someone complaining that certification is elitist, because it's based on free software and programming ability (etc) and how someone might be a really great person and they don't get good certification and thats really unfair. STOP WHINING. It's a free software site, and on free software will you be judged. I might be able to burn toast better than Miguel, but he's a better coder than I'll ever be, so that's why he's a master here, and I'm not. Maybe on a burning toast version of Advogato (in some parallel universe somewhere) I'll be the master and he might be the journeyer (not that I'm judging Miguel's burning toast ability, he might be better than me, but I doubt it...), but who cares?

Just stop it, it's annoying. Delete your diaries, remove your certifications, I don't really care, but just stop whining. (Oh yeah, my understanding of all this came from quickly skimming various comments, so I probably misunderstand, but I think it has to be said anyway)

  • 5 weeks and I'll be finished forever. Saw an advert for postgrad studies at some uni in England (Bath?) that was Unix and C, but it's probably nothing I couldn't learn from sitting at home writing cool(*) GNOME stuff.
  • I'm going to start a list of things that I'm going to do after I finish, so that when I do actually finish, I won't have forgotten them. It's already got loads of entries: Buy new skateboard, finish GNOME-Iconedit MVC stuff, learn Perl, learn Python, work out how to use bonobo, work on Loom, work on 2 secret things I've thought about, find job, end world hunger. I like having secret things....
  • (*)in the loosest form of the word, and purely subjective you understand

<waga-waga> Holmes is a bot thinks you're saying either way too much cheesy techno i've got way too many assumptions bl00p.:

  • I found a hazelbot. Thanks LotR. I set it going in #teenzone on Dalnet. It learned lots of words, like "Porno", "cyber", and "horny teen XXX pics". Hmmmm. Negotiating to get a permanent account on someone my friend knows system.
  • Was going to go to a website to check something very important, but I've absolutly no idea what it was.
  • my shoe is cutting off the blood supply to my foot. It hurts like buggery
  • I don't care about people deleting all their entries/certifications.

-w- b|n- a k/:

  • I have nothing to say. I could bitch about /. but I won't.
  • In "A Brave New World", the second lowest class wore khaki coloured clothes, and were conditioned at birth to think they looked nice
  • The GAP has spent millions over the past 2 years telling us that khaki looks good.
  • I'd like to think it was a coincidence.
  • Why do people not like to think anymore? People are far too accepting about what they are told.
  • That makes me sad.
  • Then again, so do dead bunny rabbits
  • Happy easter all you religious types (myself included)
  • Happy earth day all you hippies. Stop making crap names for things

What is a school without direction:

  • Big pointless patches day. Redid my gnome-canvas patch from ages ago, and spent hours trying to work out how e-table worked. That is one spiders web of stuff. Very nice, but a spiderwebs none the less. Yeah and at the end of those hours I was able to make a 4line patch to make the bounds get calculated right, and redraw it properly :)
  • Did no work on my report.
  • Oh yeah, have to redo the help-browser prettification patch, cos it wouldn't patch for Jacob.
  • Not done much else, actually. Debating converting e-table-cell-text to use e-text, so the former gets the benefits of my patches to the latter. Plus the former has 50% identical code to the latter, so I don't see why they can't be shared.
  • I want a bot. Specifically I want a Hazelbot like TigerT had. It was fun. I want to unleash it with 0 words in it's dictionary, and put it into #teenchat, #teensex...etc, on Dalnet to see how long it will take before it can chat someone up.
  • Problem is I can't find Hazelbot anywhere...
  • URL anyone?
  • Please?
  • Oh yeah...Forgot I also made metatheme not require icky nasty Imlib :) Very useful I feel.

Don't stop. No, whatcha doing?:

  • Got IJB installed. I love this thing. It rules :) I went to look at Mosfets evil KDE page (to see what new thing KDE has nicked from GNOME and pretended they invented.). IJB decided that "banner.gif" was an advert and didn't download it. Perfect, no hideous picture of mosfet.
  • Start an argument with someone that "Yes, a shake up is required in the world's government's methodologies, but no, Anarchy isn't the correct way to go.". It was on /. but it ended quickly.
  • /. has got far too gossipy. There was an article about the icee character, and a whole load of comments where about his sex life, how he didn't go to university, what his dad did...Who cares? It didn't change the story.
  • One of these days I'll pull myself away from /.'s evil clutches, but I need something to do when I'm bored, and the alternative is looking up porn, which can't be as healthy as reading /.
  • Had lots of arguments this week actually. Had another one with my friends that if Mogwai got some radio play then they'd get to the top of the charts.
  • People also took offensive at my statement that "People are told what to think/say/watch/listen to/wear", but I'm standing by it.

I love myself, and I want to die:

  • Mazeone: I do.
  • Apologies to everyone on the Evolution list. I really didn't think people were so +/- bounce. Ekkk. Noticed that every flamewar on the list has JWZ at the centre of it.
  • Almost typed "center" in the last item. Erk! Bad Iain
  • "Thusly it was ironical that I was burglarized while I was conversating with you."
  • I wonder if I've meantioned that before?
  • Probably. I repeat myself a lot these days.
  • I repeat myself a lot these days.
  • Sometimes I don't even change what I said
