I joined Advogato because I hoped to hear someones opinion on some project I am working on. It is a public rating system.

Which is the problem, since I'm not actually working that much; I got a php front end, which works with a mysql database, and a C program. Sometimes I'm a lazy bastard, and so i consider most of the stuff that is missing, like

  • mailing passwords to users that forgot them,
  • better web-design
  • better security (=start using $_GET and $_POST, errorlogging(E_ALL))
  • writing the final shell script that glues the php and C together
  • adding a database layer for portability
(consider..) as features that are not important until I got users. However I'm pretty low on cash and lack the enthusiasm to set up a website. It is a vicious circle. Also I'm easy to please design-wise. So I think I really need partners (and users).

I am considering making the code public and see what happens, but it is not like I got a handle on something like running a popular site yet, which I imagine this might become, so I wondered whether people(you!) think if I could use a time-bombed license, by which I mean that after say 4 years, the code gets licensed under a proprietary license to each major contributor, the GPL, and some other OSI - approved licenses.

Also, would this procedure find approval by a host like sourceforge ? For comparision, what is the worst license that is used on sourceforge so far ?

Your input will be much appreciated. Or maybe you are the partner I'm looking for ?

Meta: WTH ? You can't reply to diaries ? How do people connect to each other then ? Am I supposed to scan every diary entry for my name manually ?
