Bruce Springsteen is still THE BOSS

Pardon my admittedly non-development aside. Last night, I saw Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band in Cincinnati. I last saw them in 1985 at the HoosierDome. That show was incredible. This time, college behind me and a bit more disposable income <grin> I sat three rows off the floor near Clarence Clemons. What a show.

No one (and I have seen a lot of concerts) puts on a show with as much energy, passion, emotion and conviction as Springsteen and E Street. Most of the new album (The Rising) was played. Laden with remembrances and tributes to the fallen and the survivors of 9/11, songs from The Rising were played with particular passion and feeling. From Clarence crying during "You're Missing" to the whole band dancing and celebrating the resilience of the human spirit with "Mary's Place", it is clear that they have not lost a step and in fact, like fine wine, grow better and stronger with age.

Whether you loved the Boss in your youth or you have "discovered" him through The Rising, make a point to see this tour. You will not be disappointed. In fact, you will likely walk away feeling washed clean and energized as I did.

It has been a while since my last entry. The majority of my time has been consumed with work (day job) and more work (Xaraya). The good news is we were able to launch Xaraya.com this evening. For the curious, Xaraya is the next generation CMS being developed by the folks that brought you PostNuke. (See previous diary entry for more info).

As the Team Lead of Xaraya's Marketing/Communications Committee (MCC), I've had the great privilege to work with some really talented folks ... Marty Vance (Dracos), Jim Starkweather (jims) and Drew Vogel (vogelap) ... to pull this site together. In addition, the Xaraya dev team took time away from their projects to review the site and help make sure everything was accurate. This is really just the tip of the iceberg. We have some cool features coming online for the site so our user and developer communities can stay abreast of the project.

I guess that is about it for now. In closing, I'll give a shout out to my Cincinnati Bengals! Glad to see you win this week!

My first blog entry. What a momentous occasion. Surely the OS world has been holding it's collective breath for just this moment. :)

This weekend, I learned more about Debian administration than I ever thought I would want or need. :) Working hand in hand (really more like lead by the nose by) with experienced Linux Admins ... Bone, Rabbitt, Miko, Jan and Ike ... the development server for our as project-to-be-named-later was brought online. Minor tweaks and enhancements are till forthcoming, but CVS, Mailman, Squirrelmail, Webmin, IRCD and other useful dev communication tools are now active. Woot! Many thanks to the aforementioned Linux admins. I'd also like to give props to Grepper and Carbon on #kde-debian on irc.us.freenode.net. Thanks for the help with XFree configs.

Some would call our project a "fork" from Postnuke, a PHP-based portal/CMS/community system in turn derived from PHP-Nuke and Thatware. However, calling the project a fork would be erroneous. Project X (as we currently call it) is lead by John Cox, one of the two surviving/active PostNuke founders and author of the original Postnuke Vision document. For a variety of reasons outlined at www.dinerminor.com, John struck out on his own and 99% of the core development team decided to follow him.

I think I speak for the rest of the Project X team when I say that the emails/IMs of support and good tidings we've received from the community of Postnuke users and module developers has been very much appreciated. We were already jazzed about seeing the 1.0 vision through to reality, and the community response has only fueled our desire to build the best OS CMS available.

Now that our development server is up an running. The team is hard at work preparing a public site to share information about the development and release cycle, as well as other aspects of the project. Stay tuned.

Love, peace and bacon grease! :)
