This is the third in a series of weekly editorials. This week's Advogato's number is a short rant on licenses.

With the release of a new version of XFCE about four days ago, all redone in GTK+, it's interesting to wonder if even other desktop environments could pop up using GTK+ and what good impact that could have for GNOME.

This is the second Advogato's number. The major topic this week is Linus's keynote at Comdex, and thoughts on free software in the desktop.

Heise reported (in German) this morning that the German government has donated 250,000 DM to the GPG project, led by Werner Koch.

I think advogato is a great idea, and I would would like to contribute some ideas to it. Please read and give me some feedback.

Martí Maria Saguer recently announced lcms, his "little color management system." As such, it joins Graeme Gill's libicc as one of two free software libraries for handling ICC profiles.

Steven Young recently wrote an article in Slashdot on the basics of patents, with a special focus for developers of free software. He has graciously granted permission for the story to be reprinted here. A fine first article for Advogato's archive of useful information and resources.

While I actually am a fan of fleshing out the web of trust, I just can't resist injecting a wee bit of luddism into the mix...
