'The Pacific' ( a third
movement )
Sparkle my scenery
With Turquoise waterfall
With beauty underneath
The ever free
Tuck me in beneath the blue
Beneath the pain,
Beneath the rain
Goodnight kiss for a child in time
Swaying blade my lullaby
On the shore we sat and hoped
Under the same pale moon
Whose guiding light chose you,
Chose you all
( voice over...)
"I’m afraid, I'm so afraid.
being raped, again and again, and again
I know I will die alone
but loved.
You live long enough to hear the sounds of guns,
Long enough to find yourself screaming every night,
Live long enough to see your friends betray you.
For years I've been strapped unto this altar.
Now I only have three minutes and counting.
I just wish the tide would catch me first and give me
a death I always longed for."
I never was a metal fan. What has drawn me to the music of Tuomas
Holopaneine is my own
reading and writing
about 'The Great Divorce - Tuomas & Tarja' - the split of two
founding memebers of Finnish
symphonic metal band - Nightwish.
Tuomas has said that 'The Dark Passion Play' saved his life. I
totally believe his statement
after listening to 'The Poet and the Pendulum' over and over...I also
felt that Tarja did the
right thing to defend her confidence in the expansion of life's beauty
according to her own
terms.
Her voice in 'The Reign' from her latest album 'The Winter
Storm' remained as
remarkable as her earlier performances with nightwish...
... ( although her husband and manager's defensive remark "As we say in
my land: sleep with
kids and you'll wake up wet." is quite revealing as well...) '
I wondered if Tarja see herself more fitting in the classic operatic
settings with big orchestra
than with her fellow classmate-turning-pop-composer Tuomas...
Interestingly,
after
her departure, 'The Dark Passion Play' is the most expansive
production
that employed helps from many classic musicians.
"Today, in the year of our Lord, 2005
Tuomas was called from the cares of the world
He stopped crying at the end of each beautiful day.
The music he wrote had too long been without silence.
He was found naked and dead,
With a smile in his face, a pen and 1000 pages of erased text."
Save me
-
The Poet and the Pendulum
I declare myself a devotee of Tuomas - the composer and the poet on
the ground that what I
hear resonates the beast inside of me - the pendulum of individual's
passionate longing to
break
off laws of affinity yet always return to the center of mass where
pacified souls
dwell,
in silence, beneath the deep blue of daily attrition...
